Campfire Song

School. University. Student life. Its a different world, a messy, hilarious world filled with tasteless deodorant, paper cuts and creative procrastinations. The string that ties that world together is the idea that everyone around is going through the same thing, that when you're sitting in class casually studying your Facebook feed and walking the fine line of almost whiping your eyebrows completely off from rubbing your eyes too much, someone else is too.

"Campfire Song" is a celebration of everything that is student life other than the actual learning or studying. The dream every student has of breathing in tonnes of inky smoke from a huge campfire of burning study notes, of dancing around with some poorly executed Beyonce moves in front of the lecture room and hopping up on the table screaming "I'm free!" like a wild hooligan at the end of a semester. The song was written and dedicated to a group of friends that I made when I first started university, a group that was affectionately called "Campfire".

Lyrics

I took all of the classes
The smart dude with the glasses
Took when I chose what to take
Didn’t read the guidelines
Got stuck on the sidelines
And I’m struggling with the subject’s name

But I’m here in the barn now
Helping feed the cash cow
I’m in the headcount
Taking student discounts
Found my own couch in the postgrad lounge
I’m an overseas student if you want me out
A perfect P, just off a HD
Picking up the misprints in the policy
Cause I’ll take what I get when I’m broke
And I’m always broke so watch me go

Heya in the courtyard start a campfire today
Burn up all the class stuff steal the speaker’s buffet
All that we learnt and all that we know
Has helped us start a campfire watch it glow

Cause I can highlight with so many colours
Regurgitate the words of so many others
I’ll answer things I don’t know
Stand by my case take’em on like Rambo
Blame it on the text, blame it on Freud
If I’m being honest than I’ll blame it on the boys
My mind’s blown out- can I swap with yours?
I’ll add in as a bonus my midsem scores, no?

Heya in the courtyard start a campfire today
Burn up all the class stuff steal the speaker’s buffet
All that we learnt and all that we know
Has helped us start a campfire watch it glow
All that we learnt and all that we know
Has helped us start a campfire watch it glow

This aint good for my health, I can’t ask people for help
I have to post my problems on the web page
Well I’ll post this, add it to the list, wait to be publicly dissed by my tutor
As they’re slaving off for their wage, well yay

Cause I’m here in the barn now
Helping feed the cash cow
And I won’t get out
You can hear me shout
I’m here to eat, here to meet
Here to find my records and hit delete
In the meanwhile I’ll have some fun
Try to prove to my mum that I’m not so dumb

Heya in the courtyard start a campfire today
Burn up all the class stuff steal the speaker’s buffet
All that we learnt and all that we know
Has helped us start a campfire watch it glow
All that we learnt and all that we know
Has helped us start a campfire watch it glow
