Blog - 2016

My favourite musical celebration for the year, Meri Christmas, is continuing with another twisted Christmas carol popping up on my YouTube channel! This time it’s ‘Santa Claus Is Gunning You Down’ from Futurama. Take a looky.

If you like the video, definitely subscribe to my YouTube channel so you gan get more Meri Christmas videos and other fun clips too. Also, don’t forget to arm yourself this X-mas! Important public service announcement.

The music video for Back To Us came out exclusively on my 8 App profile on the 6th of December and on elsewhere (like on my YouTube channel) on the 7th of December. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how wonderfully it came together! Here’s the story of how it came to be.

Behind The Scenes of the Back To Us Music Video Shoot 1

The journey for the song and video started when I joined The 8 App after being encouraged by some of my Google+ friends. I created a profile and put up a few posts including the music video for Tamagotchi.

I was blown away to return to my profile a day later to find the founder of The 8 App, Sue, had discovered my profile (my 8 App friend JediBret may have pointed her in my direction). She liked my work enough to ask me if I’d be interested in creating a song inspired by the app.

I wrote the song and recorded all the parts at home in my home studio after chatting with Sue on the phone and on Skype. She spoke to me about her vision and the drive behind why she created The 8 App and the hopes she has for it bringing together people, encouraging them to create, learn, and connect.

As well as, of course, the setup which enables users to get back the majority of revenue their content generates, which they then have the facility to give back to charities through the app too. Ultimately, giving the power back to the creator. Sue was lovely, passionate and got me super inspired!

The lyrics and song came together quite easily. But, I wasn’t 100% happy with the way everything was sitting together, so Crash Symphony Productions polished the track up by doing some fancy mixing. I may have travelled all the way over to their studios (a good two hour trip) before realising I’d left my flash drive with the “stems” of the tracks at home… But it all worked out through the magic of Dropbox.

Once the song was done, I sent it through to Sue and The 8 App team, and they wrote back to me to let me know they liked it! Yay!!

La Feine Productions (who created my When I Get My Superpowers music video, which is going to be released on my YouTube channel next year) were put in charge of creating the music video for the track. The director being the fab Landon Maxwell.

On the days of the shoots I arrived to the location, which was the back of a church, to find a big green screen, lots of lights and chairs adorned with dozens of costumes. I must admit, it was rather odd getting changed repeatedly in a church 😛

Finally, all the footage was shot and the La Feine team added effects, animations and edited it together to make it into the awesome clip it has become. I’m super proud of my part and everything everyone has created for it. If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you check it out!!
